Erling Haaland has taken legal action against Norwegian Air Shuttle over a social media post published during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alleging that the airline used a distinctive element of his appearance to promote its flight tickets.
The dispute relates to a digitally altered image of a Norwegian aircraft featuring a blonde ponytail resembling the hairstyle Haaland was known for. Norwegian accompanied the post with the line, “We’ve never looked more Norwegian.” The post was subsequently removed.
Haaland and his company, York Promotions Ltd., filed the case through law firm Schjødt, reported Aftenposten. His lawyer, Thomas Hagen, confirmed that the legal action had been initiated against Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA. According to Hagen, the case concerns what Haaland's representatives describe as the airline's unlawful use of his distinctive characteristics while promoting flights during the World Cup.
The case has been registered as a dispute concerning Norway's marketing law. Haaland and Norwegian are scheduled to attend an initial digital planning meeting at Oslo District Court on October 9.
