Bengaluru secures global recognition, ranks 2nd in Asia for AI innovation

Bengaluru has once again reinforced its position as India’s leading startup hub by achieving remarkable rankings in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) 2026. The Karnataka capital has emerged as the second-best city in Asia for Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation and has secured a place among the top 15 startup ecosystems in the world. According to the report, Bengaluru has retained its 15th position globally among the world’s best startup ecosystems. The city’s startup ecosystem is currently valued at an estimated USD 152.8 billion, highlighting its growing influence in the global innovation landscape.

Between 2021 and 2025, Bengaluru attracted nearly USD 39 billion in venture capital investments, placing it fourth in Asia and among the top 15 cities globally in terms of startup funding. Karnataka alone accounts for nearly 58 percent of India’s total AI startup investments, making Bengaluru one of the strongest AI-driven innovation hubs in Asia. The city has also made significant progress in research and development (R&D). After being ranked among the top 30 globally in 2025, Bengaluru has now climbed into the world’s top 10 in the R&D category. The report attributes this growth to the increasing number of patent filings and successful commercialization of research carried out in the city.

Reacting to the report, Karnataka IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge said Bengaluru is no longer just India’s startup capital but is rapidly emerging as a global deep-tech and AI hub. He stated that the rankings reflect Karnataka’s efforts to build a “DeepTech Decade” and create globally impactful companies from within the state. The report, prepared using data from more than 5.5 million companies across over 350 cities worldwide, also ranks Bengaluru fourth in Asia and among the global top 10
