The company has announced that healthcare organizations can connect supported Epic environments to ChatGPT, allowing authorized patient context to be reviewed within the AI platform. The move is designed to address a common challenge in healthcare, where patient records, medical research, public healthcare information, and organizational data can be spread across different systems.
ChatGPT Healthcare Gets Epic EHR Integration
With the new ChatGPT EHR integration, clinicians can ask questions about information contained in an authorized patient record. For example, ChatGPT can help identify what has changed since a patient’s previous visit, highlight recent laboratory results, summarize medication changes, and identify follow-ups or unresolved issues. The system can bring relevant information together and point users back to supporting information in the patient’s chart.
The integration supports two approaches. Healthcare teams can bring authorized EHR information into ChatGPT to review patient history and prepare for appointments. In supported deployments, ChatGPT can also be incorporated directly into the EHR workflow, allowing healthcare professionals to use AI-assisted capabilities without leaving the patient record system.
