Michael Nyman has a simple theory about brands. Great ones survive bad products. Weak ones don’t survive much at all.
That may sound like a line from a brand strategist’s notebook, but for Nyman, founder and CEO of Acceleration Community of Companies, or ACC, it is also the basis of a very different agency model.
The Drum caught up with him at

, where he argued that the traditional holding company model is not dead because agencies are dead. Quite the opposite. He believes the marketing services industry has a very bright future. But only if it stops building itself around internal competition, legacy cost structures and sprawling global empires that were designed for another age.
“I just had this feeling that the holding company model was dying,” he says. “It wasn’t any prejudice against IPG. It was really looking at the model.”
